PRINTMAKING LAB is a 6-week course that introduces students to several printmaking techniques: monotype, drypoint, linocut, and paper lithography. All materials are provided. No prior art or printmaking experience is necessary.
Weeks 1-2: MONOTYPES—We’ll explore 3 different ways to use this printmaking technique: Additive, Subtractive, and Trace monotypes. Students will make works with each one and in combination with one another.
Week 3-4: DRYPOINT—An intaglio method of printmaking: the image is cut directly into Plexiglas, inked, and then printed, creating a print similar to an etching, with very expressive lines.
Week 5: LINOCUT—We’ll cover the basics of relief printmaking using linoleum blocks to create original work in black and white or color.
WEEKS 6: PAPER LITHOGRAPHY—A variation on traditional lithography in which prints are made directly from a photographic or drawn image. Allows for a range of expression and experimentation with imagery.
